The Dangers of Driving Stress

May 31st, 2010

Even if  fear of driving isn’t directly an issue for you personally, it is wise to be aware of its effect on other drivers.

We have all been in a situation where someone misses a chance to turn, and irritates us while we wait helplessly behind them. Getting angry won’t make the situation any better, honking your horn out of anger just might cause an accident.

Imagine if you will the worst possible young driver you can imagine. That honk might just spur them into driving into an unsafe intersection, or at the very least make them nervous and cause them to make a foolish mistake a few blocks down the road.

New drivers aren’t the only ones that can have stress related problems while driving. Suppose you had a fight with your spouse or and now your headed out to the store to do some grocery shopping while you cool off. Think twice about driving, go for a walk instead; most people who have an accident have it within five miles of home, and people who drive while angry drive faster and more aggressively; a dangerous combination to be sure.

The biggest danger of driving stress is giving up your control of the vehicle due to a panic attack while driving. As silly as this sounds this is exactly what many people do when faced with a sudden problem on the road. Freezing up in a dangerous situation is a potentially lethal case of inaction. If you don’t know what to do in the case of a mechanical failure, hydroplaning , or a nearby accident consider a safe driving refresher course.

Before you attend the course itself run though some specific scenarios in your mind and think how you would react to them. Write down all the details of each situation and bring it along with you to ask about. Knowing if you are making incorrect assumptions can change how you respond to trouble and potentially save lives, including your own.

DIY Plumbing Tips: How To Vent A Bathroom Tub Drain

May 31st, 2010

Plumbing is not always about the toilet. Anything that connects to a drain in your home involves plumbing and that includes a bathroom tub. Venting a bathroom drain is an important step, especially if you noticed that the tub is emitting some nasty odors. What this means is that there is a lot of junk, probably hair and moisture causing mold, that has built up down inside the drain.

Venting a drain is a very quick and simple process that you can do on your own no problem. First locate your bathroom vent. You may need to remove some bricks for this purpose. Choose a site for the bathroom vent that is close enough to the bathroom drain it will work but not in an area where it is going to look unsightly. Once you find the right spot you can get to work on installing the vent.

For this job you need a screwdriver, vent kit, screws, a hammer and some caulk. Fit the vent frame in and then add the vent pieces in.

After this you only need to worry about finishing everything off. To do this you simply use caulking to cover in the gaps. There tends to be a lot of moisture in bathrooms and this will help make sure that moisture does not cause a buildup of mold or mildew. Use a generous amount of the caulking but do not go overboard and make a big goopy mess for yourself.

Mold-resistant caulk is best to use as this gives the most secure seal and is intended specifically for use in the bathroom and other areas with a great deal of moisture.

This is all there is to it. Once you have vented the drain it will be ready to use. You did not have to call in a professional plumber or even any of your own help to get the job done. You should notice the smells start to dissipate as soon as you have completed work on your vent.
