Extreme Weight Loss – 3 day diet is considered to be extreme

May 16th, 2010

One of the popular diets nowadays is the 3 day diet. This diet is focused on a special meal program that is designed for people who are having this diet to decrease its weight significantly. This kind of diet focuses on a very low calorie diet and is not advisable to go to more than three days.

Three day diet belongs to extreme weight loss programs. This diet consists of three meals a day. On this diet you are allowed to eat more foods compared to the traditional starvation when you want to reduce your weight rapidly. Breakfast must be a balanced meal consisting of grains, fruits, protein, coffee with artificial sweeteners, and the most important is to have huge amount of water intake.

Lunchtime meal is usually the same with breakfast. It also contains protein, grains, coffee with artificial sweeteners and plenty of water. The protein during this meal can come from hard boiled egg, fish, slice of cottage cheese and many more. The grain may come from a slice of toast or crackers.

Dinner meal has more variety of food. The food components are almost the same with the first two but the problem is the quantity and the representative of each food groups. For you to easily achieve this diet, ice cream is included on this meal time. You never expect it right? We all know that ice cream is supposed to be a big NO to a lot of diets, and because you are having a low calorie diet, it does not make sense.

Even though we add ice cream on the last meal of the day, the 3 day diet goal is still achievable. Majority of people having this 3 day diet will lose about ten pounds in a matter of three days. Unfortunately, most of the weight lost during that three day span is just water weight. Either way, having a short period of time to lose weight still gets the job done. Ice cream is added on this diet and at the last meal of the day to avoid the craving of ice cream which might be the reason why your diet program will not be successful. Craving of any foods must be avoided on this type of diet.

Antioxidants are everywhere

April 20th, 2010

1. Spinach contains antioxidants

Besides lutein (a pigment that acts as a shield for the retina), spinach is a food rich in natural antioxidants. Eat it in a fresh state as (in salads and sandwiches), but also in cooked foods.

2. Carrots contain antioxidants

Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant. Eat them raw or boiled, in salads or in juices. Our advice is to try as much as possible and to eat the carrot in its natural state, because as a result of contact with sources of heat, they lose their antioxidant properties.

3. Whole grains contain antioxidants

Start your day with a bowl of cereals with milk and your whole life will be more beautiful and healthy for you! Apart from cereals for breakfast, you can eat: different bakery products made from whole grains, brown rice and barley.

4. Garlic contains antioxidants

Glory to the man who discovered garlic, I would put it in almost anything! Besides the flavor that it provides to food, garlic is also an excellent antioxidant.

5. Soy contains antioxidants

Soy should be consumed because it is an excellent product for our health. The range of products made from soybeans is very rich: milk, pudding, and yogurt.

6. Lemons contain antioxidants

There is a lemon detox diet that puts its antioxidant properties to work an make you super healthy. Eating lemons once a week is a great way to get lots of vitamin C.

7. Tomatoes contain antioxidants

Another vegetable rich in antioxidants is the tomato. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that is two times stronger than the beta-carotene content of carrots.

8. Grapes contain antioxidants

Red grapes contain resveratrol, a substance known for its ability to lower blood sugar levels, but it also has anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. Eat fresh grapes or … as a glass of wine!

Most of these antioxidants work very well with an abdominal workout to combat belly fat and get a great looking six pack ab.

Gluten Free — a way of life

March 8th, 2010

If you are keeping a gluten free diet there is a lot to get used to, especially if this is a new thing for you.  If you have just found out that you need to eliminate gluten from your foods, you are going to be in for a large change in your cooking and shopping habits.  You are going to have to get used to reading labels at the grocery store and making some substitutions in your favorite recipes.  There are a lot of great recipes and cookbooks available to help you cook gluten free.

The main thing that you are going to have to get used to is not eating any foods that have wheat, barley or rye in them.  When you are cooking you are also going to have to make substitutions for certain ingredients in recipes.  Flour is going to have to be eliminated from your cooking as well as other ingredients that are popular in cooking and not gluten free. The important thing to remember is that you are not going to have to give up your favorite recipes, you are just going to have to get used to preparing the recipe in an alternate way. For example, you can enjoy your favorite cookies with a gluten free twist. Check out the free sugar cookie recipes that one blog offers.

Some of the main ingredients that are going to have to be substituted are flour, baking powder and gluten itself.  If you are a baker you know that gluten is the stuff that helps keep all of your creations sticking together.  If you take the gluten totally out of your baked goods they will surely crumble and not be very good.  You can however replace the gluten with Xanthum gum, guar gum or pre gel starch.  These ingredients will help keep your baked goods together and tasting delicious.

If you need to include baking powder in your recipe then you can make a substitute.  You can combine ¼ cup of baking soda with ½ cup of cream of tartar.  If you need some flour for a recipe, there are different combinations you can try until you find the combination that best fits your recipe.  Some combinations include different amounts of rice flour, potato flour and even soya flour.  Gluten free cooking is a way of life.
