How to Use Indoor Outdoor Rugs

March 16th, 2010

There is a new breed of rug on the market these days, so called indoor outdoor rugs. As the name implies, these rugs can be used either inside or outside your home gracing your patio, deck or any room in your home. Indeed, they look good enough to be used anywhere and the only difference between them and normal indoor rugs is that they are made of weather resistant material and can be easily cleaned.

Of course, your choice will be a little more restricted with an indoor outdoor rug but there are still plenty of rugs available to buy in all different styles as far apart as country style braided rugs and natural rugs made from bamboo.

One of the best uses of these rugs is in a kitchen which leads into the garden. The rug will add softness and color to your kitchen floor and if you choose a washable rug, rather than a bamboo one and you spill anything on it, you can take it outside into the garden and hose it down. In a couple of minutes it will be as good as new.

An indoor outdoor rug is also useful for making the garden feel a natural extension to your home, especially if your kitchen flooring is in a similar shade to your garden decking or patio. You can put a matching rug just outside the door so that in the summer the two areas, inside and outside, seem to merge into one.

Alternatively you can use your rug as an outdoor rug all summer and then bring it indoors in the fall after giving it a good clean with warm soapy water and turn it into an extra indoor rug. This means you don’t have to bother finding somewhere to store your rug over winter and it brightens up your winter decoration a little.
